My new favorite basic: Essence Rebel at Heart (The Metals)

Een paar weken terug was ik een heerlijk weekend met mijn schoonzus in Scheveningen.

Ergens tussen het proosten door (drank vloeide rijkelijk die dag) liepen we door een Kruitvat en kocht ik Esence Rebel at Heart. Hij glimde prachtig en de dronken ekster in mij moest deze lak hebben.

Nou ben ik eigenlijk normaal niet zo gek op de lakken van Essence, ik krijg er meestal niet meer dan 2 dagen (als ik mazzel heb) goede draagtijd van. Als werkende moeder wil ik op werkdagen mijn nagels niet tussendoor hoeven bijwerken of overnieuw moeten lakken, dus kies ik meestal voor een meer high end merk zodat ik zeker weten perfect gelakte nagels heb op werk.

Je snapt dat ik dus verbaasd was toen deze mooie lak na dag 1 nog perfect zat

Na dag 2 zat deze lak ook nog prachtig

Aan het einde van dag 3 had ik lichte slijtage, niet meer dan bij een duur merk en dat voor een bedrag van € 1,89

Ik ben dus erg enthousiast over hoe goed deze lak blijft zitten. Mag ik nog even doorgaan met enthousiast zijn? Want deze lak dekt ook waanzinnig goed! Je kan wegkomen met 1 laag, maar we weten allemaal dat als je het écht perfect wil hebben dat je er dan altijd twee doet, zelfs als het niet echt nodig is. Het geeft meer kleur en diepte. Maak je niet druk over de droogtijd, die is super snel!

Het borsteltje en de dikte van de lak zorgden er ook voor dat ik keurig kon lakken zonder dat er veel lak buiten de lijntjes kwam.

De kleur van de lak is super glimmend en is perfect voor alle gelegenheden en type personen. Chique, stoer, werk, festivals, jong, oud...  Super alleen óf als basis voor nailart met stencils ofzo. Het lijkt wel of ik betaald word om dit te zeggen, maar dat is helaas niet zo :-)
Het is echt een geweldige lak en ik heb al een backup gekocht!

Dus als je € 1,89 kan missen en je vindt dit een mooie lak, dan raad ik 'm heel erg aan.

This is a one coat wonder, but I did two because a true nailaholic knows how much more joy an extra layer of polish gives you. It adds more color, depth and weartime.
About the weartime; awesome! 

Usually I'm a snob about budget brands because they just don't last as long on me as most of their more expensive collegues, but this polish lasted 3 days without losing it's magic.

The polish and brush are perfect for an flawless result, if you are careful you almost don't need cleanup round the edges.

The cost of this beauty: 1,89 euro (2,1 Dollar) at my local drugstore, So it's a real steal!

OPI - Can't Find My Czechbook with Essence glitter gradient

OPI Can't Find My Czeckbook is the perfect light blue creme, it applies like a dream and it looks so smooth and glossy!!! I really like this polish!

I wore it as a full mani with a glitter gradient with Essence Not Punky Nor Funky, which is my favorite glitter polish by Essence ever, it was a limited edition though, sorry!

Can't Find My Czechbook wears like iron, 5 days without a single chip, another big plus for this polish! As if it wasn't already perfect.

Essence - Not Punky Nor Funky (a whole lot of everything and more)

Sometimes when you are not especially looking for it, you find awesome polishes in your local drugstore! When I'm at our local Kruitvat (drugstore) to buy diapers, I have to walk past the make-up stands (oh the horror! ;-)). And there was something sparkly catching my eye at the Essence stand: hello Not Punky Nor Funky.

The name actually confuses me a bit, because it ís Punky ánd Funky.

Let's take a closer look:

Essence Not Punky Nor Funky is a whole lot of everything: black square glitter, holographic bar glitter, large hot pink glitter, tiny orange glitter, large gold glitter with green opalescent glow....and I'm sure I've overlooked some more.

I wore Not Punky Nor Funky over a simple shimmery nude so all the attention goes to the chaos of glitter on top of it. And it did get alot of attention, I received many compliments over this mani!

Look at all the holographic barglitter!

And to my surprise this mani lasted for 4 days without any damages or wear. I removed it because I wanted to wear something different, not because I needed to.

So if you can still find this polish at your local drugstore, go and buy it! You won't be disappointed.

PolishSis' unposted manis of 2012.

As most of you know, 2012 was a special year for me. I was pregnant and in august I gave birth to our beautiful boy Tyler. Yayyy! Due to extreme fatigue and nausea during pregnancy and being 24/7 on my happy babyblue cloud after Tyler was born, I posted alot less manis this year. But that doesn't mean I didn't try to. I painted my nails often and sometimes even took pictures with the intent to show them to you. It's 2013 now and these pictures are still on my laptop waiting to be shown. So here is a small recap of some of the mani's I wore in 2012, but never posted.
(and if you can make it all the way untill the end of this post, I might have a bonus-babypicture for you :-) )

Zoals de meeste van jullie wel weten, was 2012 een speciaal jaar voor mij. Ik was zwanger en in augustus beviel ik van onze prachtige zoon Tyler. Wegens extreme vermoeidheid en misselijkheid tijdens mijn zwangerschap en wegens extreme blijdschap nadat Tyler was geboren heb ik bijzonder weinig mani's aan jullie laten zien dit jaar. Maar dat betekent niet dat ik niet vele pogingen heb gedaan tot het maken van blogposts. Ik had meestal gelakte nagels en nam er vaak ook foto's van met de bedoeling deze hier te laten zien. Het is nu 2013 en die foto's staan nog steeds op mijn laptop. Dus hier is een kleine samenvatting van lakjes die ik wel gedragen heb, maar nooit heb laten zien.
(en als je het helemaal volhoudt tot het einde van deze blogpost, dan heb ik daar misschien wel een bonus-babyfoto voor je :-) )

Revlon Beach: Very sheer, needed 4 thick coats. I'm not a fan of scented nails.
Revlon Beach: Erg dun, 4 dikke laagjes nodig. Ik ben geen fan van geurtjes op mn nagels.

Kleancolor Red Hot: Lovely red glitters in a red transparent base. Smells awful, drytime is long.Kleancolor Red Hot: Mooie rode glitters in een doorzichtige rode lak. Stinkt gruwelijk en droogt langzaam

Nubar Chocolate Caramel is a caramel color with a light green shimmer. Just lovely.
Nubar Chocolate Caramel is een warme caramel kleur met helder groene shimmer. Mooi kleurtje.

Nubar Black polkadot is a versatile layering polish. Can be worn over almost every polish. 
Nubar Black Polkadot is een veelzijdige topcoat. Je kan deze lak bijna over iedere lak heen dragen.

I looove OPI Pros and Bronze! Ultra small coral and golden flakies in a clear base , 3 coats.
I think this one looks good with every skintone, shape or lengthe of nail.
Oh ik hou van OPI Pros and Bronze! Super fijne koraal en goud kleurige flakies in transparante basis, 3 laagjes.
Ik denk dat deze lak prachtig past bij iedere huidskleur, vorm of lengte van nagel.

Models Own Slate Green is a very pretty teal, application is a breeze.

If you can't decide which polish to wear...wear them all ;-)
Als je niet kan kiezen welk lakje je op moet doen...draag ze allemaal ;-)

Milani Hi Tech looks amazing in the sun. Not a bright holo, but still pretty.
Milani Hi Tech ziet er super uit in de zon. Geen opvallende holo, maar wel mooi.

I wore Kleancolor Holo Purple over a medium purple. It's not a holo though, but a duochrome glitter.
The smell is very very bad. 
Ik droeg Kleancolor Holo Purple over een  paars lakje. Het is trouwens geen holo, maar een duochrome glitter.
De geur is echt vreselijk.

Zoya Ivanka is one of the best greens I own. Very colorful and sparkly.
Zoya Ivanka is één van mijn mooiste groene lakjes. Heel kleurrijk en glimmend.

Essence Grand-Plie in Black is ultra glossy, I'm not wearing topcoat in this picture!
Essence Grand -Plie in Black is echt super glimmend, ik draag geen topcoat op deze foto!

Essie Tart Deco is perfect for the summer, it looks great if you are a bit tanned!
Essie Tart Deco is perfect voor de zomer, het staat geweldig bij een zongebruind huidje!

Herôme Essaouira is a light green / mint color that gives you a fresh and colorful look!
Herôme Essaouira is een licht groene / mint kleurige lak die je handen een frisse en kleurrijke look geeft!

Kleancolor Chunky Holo Black is a brownish transparent base filled with opalescent duochrome glitters in various sizes. Mostly they shift yellow, orange and green. Very pretty. And like all Kleancolors also very smelly and long drytime.
Kleancolor Chunky Holo Black is een bruinige transparante basis vol met duochrome glitters in verschillende groottes. Voornamelijk kleuren ze geel, oranje en groen. Heel mooi. Zoals alle andere Kleancolors stinken ze als een beerput en drogen langzaam.

OPI Black Spotted. I believe there are no dupes yet. Major tipwear within hours. But I really didn't care, I was just happy I own a bottle.
Opi Black Spotted. Volgens mij is dit een uniek lakje. De lak slijt echt snel aan de punten, al binnen een paar uur. Het kon me weinig schelen, ik was al blij dat ik 'm in mijn bezit heb.

Anny Moonlight is a light metallic eggplant color. Not very  special, but  it looks nice.  Amazing wear, after several days no tipwear.
Anny Moonlight is een lichte metallic aubergine kleur. Niet zo'n speciaal kleurtje, maar het staat wel mooi. Blijft geweldig goed zitten, na meerdere dagen zat het nog perfect.

2B nailpolish. Black with golden glitter. Can't remember a thing about this polish. Looks nice though.
2B nagellak. Zwart met gouden glitters. Ik weet niets meer van dit lakje. Ziet er wel mooi uit.

Herôme Utreg. This polish is named after the town I live in. So obviously I needed to buy  this polish. It's a bright yellow polish with a white/silver shimmer. Needed 4 coats to get good coverage. It was a bit streeky. 
Herôme Utreg. Deze lak heet naar de stad waarin ik woon, dus natuurlijk moest ik deze kopen! Het is een zonnig geel kleurtje met een witte/zilveren shimmer erin. Er waren 4 laagjes nodig voor dit resultaat. Ook was het een beetje streperig.

Spring cleaning: 10 mani's I never posted (+ Drawer of Untrieds)

There are so many swatches on my laptop that I never posted for reasons I don't understand. So I decided to post some of them together in this post so I can remove these files on my disk and make room for newer swatches so I can clean up the Drawer of Untrieds.

Er staan echt zo veel swatches op mijn laptop die ik om onverklaarbare redenen nooit gepost heb. Dus ik besloot een post te doen van een aantal van deze swatches zodat ik die mapjes weg kan gooien en wat ruimte kan maken op de schijf voor nieuwe swatches en zo weer mijn Lade met Ongebruikte Lakjes kan opruimen.

Essie Smooth Sailing. I believe I wore this mani in December round Christmas. The color is lovely and the shimmer is very pretty

Essie Smooth Sailing. Volgens mij droeg ik deze mani in December ergens rond kerstmis. de kleur is prachtig en de shimmer is echt mooi.

Catrice Big Spender Wanted! Pink with a golden shimmer, pretty and girly. If this wasn't girly enough I added that terrible nailart to it, gives me cavities just looking at it. Don't know why I did this...

Catrice Big Spender Wanted! Roze met gouden shimmer, mooi en erg meisjesachtig. En alsof dit niet zoet genoeg was heb ik ook nog die vreselijke nailart erbij gedaan, ik krijg al gaatjes als ik ernaar kijk. Geen idee waarom ik dit gedaan heb.

China Glaze Crushed Candy. A great crackle polish, color is pretty, works really good. But I'm all crackled out now, I'm not buying metallic crackles or glitter crackles anymore. 

(although I might buy the OPI Superman crackle if the swatches look good )

(maar misschien koop ik nog wel die OPI Superman crackle als de swatches goed zijn )

OPI Diva of Geneva. I really love this polish and wore it al least 3 times ( which is alot for me ). This is the most color accurate picture I took in those three times, for some reason my camera can't capture the true beauty of this polish.

OPI Diva of Geneva. Ik vind dit echt een tegekke lak en heb 'm al zeker 3 keer gedragen ( dat is echt veel voor mij ). Dit is de beste foto die ik in die 3 keer heb genomen, mijn camera krijgt het maar niet voor elkaar om de echte schoonheid van deze lak vast te leggen

China Glaze Stella. Another polish that is truly beautiful, but my camera can't get a decent picture of. This polish is a purple + red + pink, all in one stunning polish. But my camera colorcorrects it to either pink or red, I guess this picture comes close to the real color though.

China Glaze Stella. Nog zo'n lak die echt waanzinnig is, maar waar mijn camera geen normale foto van kan  maken. Deze lak is paars + rood + roze allemaal samen in één lak. Maar mijn camera pakt steeds alleen de rode of de roze kleur eruit.

Ik geloof wel dat deze foto redelijk in de buurt komt van de echte kleur

For our Winter Wonderland Christmas Eve party I did a simple mani with China Glaze White on White and the tiny holographic glitters from Fairy Dust. Matched my outfit (+ white wig) perfectly.

Voor onze Winter Wonderland Kerstavond party deed ik een simpele mani met China Glaze White on White en de kleine holografische glittertjes van Fairy Dust. Het paste perfect bij mijn outfit (+witte pruik)

My sister gave me her bottle of Orly Red Carpet because she knows how much I love a bright red pedi. Unfortunately this polish is very sheer, this is three coats. The tiny silver glitter in it is nice though.

Mijn zusje gaf me haar flesje Orly Red Carpet omdat ze weet hoe graag ik een fel rode pedi draag. Helaas dekt deze lak erg slecht, dit zijn 3 lagen. De kleine zilveren glittertjes erin zijn wel mooi.

This Cupcake Mani must be almost 2 years old. It's a shame I never posted it. I did both hands and wore it for a birthday party.

Deze Cupcake Mani moet ongeveel 2 jaar oud zijn ofzo. Het is een schande dat ik dit niet eerder heb gepost. Ik heb toen allebei mijn handen gedaan en droeg het voor een verjaardag.

Essence Grand-Plie in Black. This black jelly polish with orange glitter came from the Ballerina Backstage collection. The only polish that I really liked from that collection. This is without topcoat, look how glossy it is!

Essence Grand-Plie in Black. Deze zwarte jelly lak met oranje glitters zat in de Ballerina Backstage collectie. dit was de enige lak uit die collectie die ik de moeite waard vond. Dit is zonder topcoat, kijk hoe glanzend dit is!

This really helps me clean up some folders on my laptop. Now I have room for newer swatches that I really need to work on soon because my Drawer of Untrieds is completely full! I think there are close to 100 polishes in the drawer  that need to be photographed :-s

Dit helpt me al heel erg met het opruimen van wat mapjes op mijn laptop. Nu heb ik wat meer ruimte om te werken aan swatches uit mijn Lade met Ongebruikte Lakjes, want die zit propvol!!! Ik denk dat er wel bijna 100 lakjes in zitten die ik nog moet fotograferen :-s

Essence meet_me@holografics.com : Prism@tic White , Gagalectric, Blue Ray

When I heard about Essence doing a collection called meet_me@holografics.com I was really excited, finally affordabale holographics that I could easily get my hands on! So I stalked the local drugstore for several weeks untill finally they were there... and then they turned out to be sheer duochromes. I was so disappointed I left the store without buying a single polish.
Days later I decided to buy them anyway so I could show them to you, but by then two of the colors were already sold out. So today I'm showing you three polishes from Essence meet_me@holografics.com

Toen ik hoorde dat Essence een collectie zou uitbrengen met de titel meet_me@holografics.com was ik wild enthousiast, eindelijk leuke betaalbare holografische lakjes die ik gewoon hier in de winkel kan kopen. Dus ik stalkte de Kruitvat vrijwel iedere dag voor een paar weken lang en toen ze er eindelijk waren... bleken het vrij doorzichtige duochromes te zijn. Ik was zo ontzettend teleurgesteld dat ik weg ben gegaan zonder er één te kopen.
Een paar dagen later besloot ik er toch een paar te kopen om ze aan jullie te kunnen laten zien, maar toen waren er al twee uitverkocht. Dus vandaag laat ik 3 lakjes zien van Essence meet_me@holographics.com

Gagalectric

Gagalectric is a sheer lilac polish with icy blue duochrome. Three coats on these swatches, no topcoat.
I expected not to like it, but it actually looked pretty nice. Not a color I would usually wear, but it does give you a clean fresh look.

Gagalectric is een dunne lila lak met een ijsblauwe duochrome.
Drie laagjes gebruikt voor deze swatches, geen topcoat.
Ik had verwacht dat ik het niet zo mooi zou vinden, maar eigenlijk stond het best oké. Het is geen kleur die ik normaal gesproken zou dragen, maar het gaf wel een frisse look.

Prism@tic White

Prism@tic White is a sheer white polish with an icy blue duochrome
I used 3 coats for the swatches, no topcoat
This looks nice on the picture, if it wasn't that sheer I would wear this when it was winter and snowing to get that 'Ice Princess'-look.

Prism@tic White is een dunne witte lak met een ijsblauwe duochrome.
Ik heb 3 laagjes gebruikt voor deze swacht, gene topcoat.
Deze lak ziet er best goed uit op de foto, als hij niet zo slecht dekte zou ik deze waarschijnlijk in de winter dragen als het sneeuwt voor de 'IJsPrinses'-look.

Blue Ray

Blue Ray is a dark purple base filled with light blue shimmer, on your nail it mostly looks like a shimmery blurple ( blue/purple ). It doesn't have a strong duochrome effect, but it does look nice.
I used three coats and as you can see this one is opaque.
This is a nice polish that I will actually wear. I even bought asecond bottle.

Blue Ray is een donkerpaarse lak die propvol zit met lichtblauwe shimmer, op je nagel ziet het er vooral uit als een blurple ( blauw/paars ). Deze heeft niet een echt duochrome effect, maar het is wel mooi.
Ik heb hier drie lagen op en zoasl je ziet geeft deze wel een dekkend resultaat.
Dit is een mooie lak die ik ook echt wel zal dragen. Ik heb zelfs een tweede flesje hiervan gekocht.

Eventhough I do think Essence chose the wrong name for this collection as it created a false expectation, the colors aren't that bad though. Especially Blue Ray is nice.
I really hope Essence will do a real holographic collection one day, preferably with some dark colors. I suggest a dark green holo, dark blood red holo and dark blue holo. That would make up for the disappointment of this collection not being holographic at all ;-)

Ookal vind ik dat Essence totaal de verkeerde naam gekozen heeft voor deze collectie omdat het de verkeerde verwachingtingen gaf, zijn de kleuren toch niet slecht. Vooral Blue Ray vind ik leuk.
Ik hoop wel dat Essence ooit een echte holografische collectie zal doen, bij voorkeur met donkere kleuren. Ik stel voor dat ze dan dan een donker groene holo, donker bloedrode holo en een donker blauwe holo doen. Dat zou de teleurstelling wel wegnemen van dat deze collectie niet holografisch is ;-)

Essence - Can't Cheat On Me ( a slightly holographic polish ) layered over blue

In my previous post I showed you Catrice Blue Cara Ciao, a regular blue polish that applied great, but the color didn't 'wow' me at all. So I decided to try out my Essence Can't Cheat On Me, a bottle that stood in my drawer of untrieds since the beginning of this year. I really need to swatch more often to go throught that drawer...

In mijn vorige post liet ik Catrice Blue Cara Ciao zien, een niet zo'n speciale blauwe lak die heel fijn lakt, maar waar ik verder niet zo van onder de indruk was. Daarom besloot ik Essence Can't Cheat On Me maar eens te gebruiken, die stond al sinds het begin van het jaar in mijn lade met ongebruikte lakjes. Ik moet echt wat meer gaan swatchen om mezelf door die la te werken...

Color
A silver polish that consist of the tiniest glittery pieces that have a slight holographic effect.
These pictures are made underneath a lamp because the sun just wouldn't come out ( what a crappy summer! ), I probably could have shown the holo better if there was some sunlight.

Kleur
Een zilver lakje dat bestaat uit de allerkleinste glitterende stukjes die een licht holografisch effect hebben.
Deze foto's zijn gemaakt onder de badkamer-spotjes omdat de zon weer eens niet tevoorschijn kwam ( wat een rot zomer dit! ), als er wel zon was geweest dan had je misschien wat meer holo gezien.

Application
Great, I hardly ever have problems with polishes of Essence Color&Go, they usually have perfect application and a nice brush. This was one coat over blue.
I used it as a topcoat, but you could wear it alone in one coat if you want a subtle shimmery effect on your nails or you can wear it opaque in three coats.

Applicatie
Geweldig, ik heb zelden iets te klagen over lakjes van Essence Color&Go, meestal lakken ze perfect en er zit een fijn borsteltje aan. Dit was één laagje over blauw.
Ik heb 'm hier dus als een topcoat gebruikt, maar je kan deze ook zonder basislak prima in één laagje dragen voor een subtiel maar glanzend effect of voor een dekkend resultaat in 3 laagjes.
