My first attempt using nail foil

By // 1 comment:
So this weeks prompt is 'flowers' and 'light blue'. I use this challenge to inspire me to do new things (or just to pick a color, as I'm usually clueless about what to wear on my nails). I might do the flowers later this week, but for now the 'light blue' inspired me to try out the nail foils I ordered a while ago.

My boyfriends reaction when I showed him the pictures: "Is it supposed to look like that???"
LOL! Yes dear, it is supposed to be this random and I did not mean to cover the entire nail.

Products used:
- Hema light blue nr 83 (perfect coverage in 2 easy coats)
- nailfoil

I looked at a few Youtube tutorials about how to use the foil without using glue and it looked fairly easy, so I just gave it a go. It was indeed easy and alot of fun so be prepared to see more nailfoils around here!!!! (I have 5 more unused foils left)

You just paint your nails, wait a few minutes until the polish is dry, but a little tacky, then you put the foil an your nail and rub on it until it transfers on your nail.
I found this tutorial by The nail Polish Challenge very helpful.

I didn't try to cover the entire nail because I wanted the light blue base to be visible. But I guess if you really want to, you can reapply the foil a few times for a better coverage.
with topcoat
The tutorial said you shouldn't apply topcoat over the foil as it reduces the shine. After taking the first pictures I decided to apply some topcoat to see the result. Nothing bad happened as you can see on the picture above.

If you want to see more manicures with the theme 'Light blue' or 'Flowers', please check out the awesome ladies below:

Hema Matt 823

By // No comments:
My absolute favorite Dutch warehouse Hema also sells my favorite affordable make-up. Hema nail polish almost always has great coverage, pigmentation and weartime. They usually have lovely small seasonal collections of face make-up and nailpolish, one of the collections that is now available is called Dramatic Rock and this matte purple is one of the nailpolishes from this collections.

It certainly is a matte polish, but it's not chalky matt, more like a satin finish. I prefer the satin finish over the matte beacause of the softer look, so I'm really happy with this one!
Two creamy coats were enough to get a perfect manicure.

A few weeks ago I also did a little nailart with this polish. If you haven't seen that post, this is what I did: matte purple with shiney metallic silver stripes.
I absolutely love this polish, so if you are in Holland, check out your local Hema for this one!

Thank you so much for watching!

Golden Oldie Thursday - Splatter manicure with China Glaze 'OMG' and China Glaze 'Harmony'

By // 3 comments:
I decided to try the splatter manicure. It looked very easy, I've seen a million good splatter manicures on the web, so I grabbed some straws and huffed and puffed the polish on my nails.
Well, it was not as easy as I thought it would be. You have to be very precise in the amount of polish you use; if you use too much you get a big ugly blob of polish on your nails. If you use too little, the polish sticks to the straw and doesn't come on your nails, no matter how hard you blow into the straw.

Polishes used:
W7 Matt Black
China Glaze - Harmony
China Glaze OMG
Hema Matte topcoat

Am I glad with the result? Hmmm, not so much, but my first time could have been worse ;-)
I do like the randomness of it, not sure yet if this is something I would wear as a full mani though.

This weeks GOT Polish Chasllenge was "Lilac"

My first saran wrap manicure, using Hema and Orly nail polish.

By // 2 comments:
Saran wrap mani is like nail art for people with two left hands, so I love it! Does anybody know who invented this, because I really want to say thank you for it!

How does it work?
Paint your nails in the color you want and let it dry for a few minutes
Take the second color nail polish and put a drop of polish on a piece of foil / plastic / a magazine, you choose. Then you roll a little piece of saran wrap (plastic wrap) into a messy little ball and dip it in the drop of nail polish and stamp it lightly all over your painted nails. Finish with some topcoat and you are done!

Polishes used:
Blue - Hema 835 (it's periwinkle to be exact)
Green - Hema 82
Gold - Orly Luxe

This was my first attempt and I'm a fan of this super easy technique, can't wait to try it with different colors!
I apologize in advance for the many saran wrap mani's you may get to see around here :-)

Hope you have a wonderful week!
My week started great! I don't have to work on Mondays and had alot of fun playing with my son today. He is 1 year and 5 months old and he is just too funny! I feel completely recharged after a day of playing hide and seek, tag you're it and trying to build things with the Duplo.

Thank you so much for watching!!!

Changes on the PolishSis blog! And pictures of my ziplock bag mani

By // No comments:
Long time no see ladies! How are you all doing?
I'm a working mom now, 3 days per week at the office and the other 4 days I'm with my boy.
He turned 1 year old this month!!! Time flies so very fast, my boy is standing, walking with help from mom and dad or a small chair that he pushes around the room. I think he want's to be The Hulk when he grows up, because he loves to smash things ;-)

I'm rarely posting mani's lately, but things are going to change around here!
I decided to take pictures of every mani I'm doing, but not to make such a big deal about it. If I have a cellphone with me, I'm taking pictures with that. If the lighting is bad, I'm taking the best shots I can and mention it in the post. If I was polishing my nails by bad lighting and it doesn't look perfect, so be it. If I have horrible cuticles because I don´t have the time to Lemony Flutter them 10 times a day, sh*t happens.

I will also be less elaborate about the color, application etc. I will mention everything you'll need to know and be very honest about it, don't worry.

One of the hardest things for me to change on my blog is the following: I used to blog in Dutch ánd English. From now on I'll only blog in English.
I live in Holland, so Dutch is my mother-language and the easiest for me to write in, but it takes alot of time to do both Dutch and English in one blogpost. I was basically writing the same post twice, every single time. I just don't have the time and energy for that now. English is the language almost everyone on the www understands, so I decided to do my posts only in English from now on.
I know my English isn't perfect, but you can also choose to only look at the pictures :-)

The only thing that is important to me is to be able to share my nail polish addiction with people who understand my addiction and who like to see the polishes I'm using.

And now some pictures of a recent mani!

I used the ziplock bag technique which you have probably seen on alot of other blogs.
For a first attempt it turned out pretty good I think!

On the picture above you see how I prepared for this mani. The silver holographic glitter polish (China Glaze Nova) was not working for me in this technique so i didn't use that one. I couldn't get it to lay flat after I punched the circle out.

Well, that is it for today.
Have a great day and thank you so much for sticking with me!!!

HEMA Holographic Collection

By // 3 comments:

HEMA has always been my favorite Dutch departmentstore. Since I became a mother a little over 8 months ago this love has grown alot because of the great baby clothing and babyproducts they sell. At the beginning of last April HEMA has surprised me with three new nail polish collections: 1 collection with 6 glitters, 1 collection with 6 duochromes and 1 collection with 6 holographic polishes! Holo's at our own Dutch HEMA, jayyy!!!
With topcoat / Met topcoat

These are the four holographic polishes I tested.
All pictures are made in direct sunlight to show the holographic effect at it's best

Without the sunlight they look like metallic shimmer polishes.
With topcoat / Met topcoat

These polishes dry slightly matte, if you want the finish to be glossy you need a topcoat. Topcoat doesn't make the holographic effect less.

Without topcoat / Geen topcoat
Kleur:

Color
HEMA 51 Holographic Pink is a light pink polish. It's a cool tone of pink, but very soft and cute. Not my style, I prefer a brighter color on my nails. The holographic effect is subtle, but very pretty in the sunlight.
Without topcoat / Geen topcoat
Applicatie Holographic Pink:
Droogt SUPER snel!

Application Holographic Pink:
In these pictures I'm wearing three coats of polish over a basecoat. The first coat doesn't cover well, the second coat is slightly steaky, the third coat makes it all perfect. The drytime is awesone, super quick drying!

Without topcoat / Geen topcoat
Kleur:

Color:
HEMA 53 Holographic Blue is a light blue polish. A very cool toned polish (almost gives me the chills ;-)), I personally would wear this mid winter when it's freezing and snowing. But that is my opinion, I can see this polish being used on lot's of tanned hands and feet this summer. Again a subtle holographic effect, but very noticable in sunlight.

Without topcoat / Geen topcoat
Applicatie Holographic Blue:

Application Holographic Blue:
I used three thin fast drying coats over a basecoat. The second layer showed some streaks, but the third made it all look even. On these pictures you can't see how the polish dries a bit matte, but in real life you might want to use your topcoat.

Without topcoat / Geen topcoat
Kleur:

Color:
HEMA 51 Holographic Green is a light green polish. I love green! The only thing better then green is teal, but green is always good. This is a very soft color green, very spring-y. I would have liked it better if the color was a bit brighter, but it being holographic makes up for that. As you can see in the pictures the subtle rainbow looks very nice against the green.

Without topcoat / Geen topcoat
Applicatie Holographic Green:

Application Holographic Green:
Again three coats over a basecoat. I advise you to wait two minutes between each coat to let the polish dry, you hardly get streaks that way.

Without topcoat / Geen topcoat
Kleur:

Color:
HEMA 55 Holographic Purple is my personal favorite of this collection. The cherry on the cake. Pièce the Resistance, etc, etc etc
A beautiful bright purple color. Now this is my kind of color! I really liked how this polish looked on me, so I'll be wearing this as a full mani as soon as possible.
With topcoat / Met topcoat
Applicatie Holographic Purple:

Applicatie Holographic Purple:
This polish is very pigmented and covers in one coat, but I'm wearing two because I prefer that. No streaks at all, super fast drying. Again that matte finish, so grab your topcoat.
If you are broke and can only buy one of these holographics, buy this one!

Goed gedaan hoor HEMA!
Of kind.
Holographic Pink"

Well done HEMA! The colors are a bit too light for my taste, but I guess there will be alot of people interested in these light colors. I have no doubt these will fly off the shelves in no time. Who doesn't want a rainbow on her nails this summer?
Two little points of criticism:
1) This is a temporary collection (probably available untill fall)
2) The titles are just boring and they make it difficult to google for swatches. I suggest to take an example of Zoya. Give the polish a name, quick and easy. And isn't it nice if there is a polish with your name on it? Or your boyfriend's. Or your child's. I suggest the following names for the polishes I swatched: Pink Patricia, Blue Bella, Green Ginger, Violet Valery.
See, takes less than a minute and it looks better then: "54. Holographic Pink"

Above a picture of the entire HEMA Holographic collection.
I don't have the dark pink or the gold polish.
These go for € 3,75 and are available in HEMA stores now!

Thank you so much for visiting my blog!

Hits - London (Londres). Lovely black and white glitter!

By // 6 comments:
Since the indie polish brands are a huge hit on the blogs I was lemming my own bottle of black and white glitter! I especially liked Connect The Dots because, but never got my hands on one. (With $ 22,50 a bottle it's too expensive for a home made polish anyway). When I saw the promo pictures of the new Hits Glitter World collection on Llarowe's Facebook I immediately noticed this black and white glitter and I bought it as soon as they were available. It arrived very soon and I really really like how it looks!

Color
Black and white glitter, medium and large, in a clear base.
Pictured here over a grey Hema polish.

Kleur

Application
There are alot of glitters in this tiny bottle (6ml), unfortunately they all end op at the tip of your nail if you apply it like regular polish, so you really need to dab them on. The result is great, as you can see.

Applicatie

It's 'just' black and white glitter over a plain grey creme, but I couldn't stop staring at my nails, they looked so different than I'm used to. This might be my new favorite glitter polish. Can't wait to try it over a more colorful base.

Picture taken with flash
I bought this polish @ Llarowe

So, I hope you enjoyed watching this lovely glitter polish.
I bought 2 others from that collection and I will show them to you really soon!

Thank you so much for watching.
I hope you have a wonderful day!

Nail Polish Bloggers Challenge, Day 7: Pink Pop Art

By // 7 comments:
For day 7 of the challenge I tried some real nailart, you know, doing a real design myself with tiny nailart brushes. It's hard and not something I would normally do, but I wanted to do something special for the last day of the challenge.

I was inspired for this mani by WAH nails, I've seen some pictures of pop art nails there. If you are not familiar with pop art you should really google it, try Roy Lichtenstein, he is a wellknown pop art artist.

This really was alot of work! First I painted my nails pink and let it dry. Then I used scotch tape to tape off the pointy shapes and painted the second color over the nail. After that I outlined the shapes with nailart stripers, did some dotting and tried to paint words.
I liked it alot when I was finished so I wore these 5 painted nails the whole day. I didn't mind the nails on the other hand were naked, I only had eyes for my left hand.
So, this is it. You've reached the end of this pink Nail Polish Bloggers Challenge.
I liked trying some new nailart for this week, some things worked better than I thought and I will definately try them again ( double stamping, frankening ). I probably wouldn't have tried those things anytime soon if I wasn't doing this challenge. So thanks to Caroline from Good Lack, Nail! for asking me to do this challenge!

Products used: Misa "I will Survive" | Misa "Femme Fatale" | Hema nr 84 | H&M "Blue My Mind"| OPI "IT Color" | scotch tape
Front: Black and white Konad 2way Nailart pens and a dottingtool

Thank you so much for watching the last mani of the challenge
I really had fun with the challenge this last week.
But you won't see me wearing pink any time soon!;-)))
XOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOX

Nail Polish Bloggers Challenge, Day 6: Pink Party!

By // 10 comments:
For day 6 I did something easy: I frankened a polish inspired by Deborah Lippmanns Candy Shop. I loved that polish from the first day I've seen swatches on ALU. Ofcourse my franken doesn't match Candy Shop but it does look very festive.

Don't you just love all the confetti glitter they are making this year? I know Deborah Lippmann started the hype with her Happy Birthday but I'm glad brands that are more easily accessible and less pricy jumped on the bandwagon and made some dupes :-)
I didn't use as much glitter as in the original, because I didn't want to use up as much of my glitterpolish for this franken. I want to save most of it so I can make frankens in other colors. How about a teal confetti polish? Or a purple one?
So this is day six of the challenge already! One more pink mani to go and I promise you I really did my best on the last one. I'm very excited to show it to you tomorrow because it's something I've never done before! So stay tuned... ( cliffhanger on a nailpolish blog, how exciting LOL )

Dus blijf wachten... ( cliffhanger op een nagellakblog, hoe spannend LOL )
Products used L-R: Hema nr 84 | Milani 'Gems' | Hema mini bottle of clear polish

Thank you soooo much for watching
Hope you have a wonderful weekend!
XOXOXOXOXOXOX

And don't forget to check out the other girls in this challenge.
They all do a wonderful job this week!
